Call for Book Chapters for Conservation and Restoration of Heritage Buildings

Brief of the Edited Book

The Indian sub-continent is endowed with, perhaps, the richest and the most diverse stock of cultural and architectural heritage. Protecting the built heritage and conserving the local traditional and cultural values of communities for future generations present a real challenge for technology. Heritage structures often require remedial intervention due to material deterioration and structural distress caused by natural phenomena, such as, ageing or weathering of materials, and natural and man-made disasters. They were built in an era when building codes, as we know them today, were not formalized, and with construction materials and techniques that present-day engineers and architects are neither acquainted with, nor formally taught. The durability of these structures may offer an illusion of eternity.
