Mirabai Chanu Biography | Silver Medalist at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who is recently highlighted in news for winning a silver medal in Women 49 Kg at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was born on 8 August 1984. On 24th July 2021, she brings the first medal for India in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The government of India has also awarded her Padma Shri & Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna for her contributions to the sport.

In 2014, she had won the silver medal for the women's 48 kg at Commonwealth Games, Glasgow. But in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Gold coast, she had won the gold medal. She had also won the Gold medal in the 2017 World Championships held in Anaheim, United States in the under 49 kg category.

At the age of 12, her family identified that she can easily carry a bundle of firewood, while her elder brother can't do so.


Mirabai Chanu Career

Mirabai Chanu's first international medal came at the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, 2014 by winning a silver medal in the 48 kg weight category. She has also qualified the 2016 Rio Olympicsin the women's 48 kg category. But, as showed in the above image, she failed to finish it.
