Q. What happens after my article has been accepted?

A. While the manuscript files are handed over to production for data processing and typesetting, you (being the corresponding author) will stay in touch with us through Edupedia Publications. There you will be asked whether you wish to:

  • Publish your article open access with Pen2Print and IJR Scheme.
  • Transfer the copyright of your article.
  • Order paid offprints in addition to your free (electronic) offprint.

Q. My name is spelled incorrectly in the article – How can I change that?

A. At the proof stage, you can indicate any changes that you would like to have made. The typesetter carries out corrections before an article is published online. Please note: after publication, changes are no longer possible.

Q. Can I share my electronic offprint with others?

A. Authors have the right to disseminate (also by email) the PDF eOffprint of their journal article to research colleagues (for personal use by such colleagues).

What is the rejection rate of journals?

Rejection rates range from 30%-90%. Journals with good to high standards have rejection rates of around 90%. Open-access journals tend to have lower rejection rates.

What are open-access journals?

Open-access journals are journals that offer free and permanent online access to research articles they publish. The aim of these journals is to “ensure the rapid and efficient communication of research findings” to the entire scientific community

While readers are given free access to published material, authors typically have to pay an article-processing fee to help these journals bear publishing costs.

What is impact factor?

Impact factor indicates the number of times the articles in a journal are cited in other studies during a particular period. For example, an impact factor of 3 indicates that each article in the journal was cited 3 times on average during the specified period. It is assumed that an article that is cited many times presents novel, interesting, or important research.


Are a journal’s impact factor and rejection rate directly correlated? For example, does a journal with a low impact factor have a low rejection rate?

In general, journals with a high impact factor tend to be more selective and therefore have a high rejection rate as well. However, this is not always true.

Some journals with a low impact factor have a high rejection rate; for example, new journals aspiring to be the best in their field have a low impact factor but they can be extremely selective. Conversely, some journals with a high impact factor may not be very selective; for example, the open-access journal PLoS One has an impact factor above 4, but its rejection rate is relatively low (30%) because it aims to publish a large volume of research.

Do journal peer reviewers accept/reject papers?

No, peer reviewers do not accept/reject papers; the journal editor makes this decision. However, while peer reviewers do not make this decision, they can strongly influence this decision because they evaluate your manuscript and make recommendations on whether to accept or reject it. The journal editor considers these recommendations when making the acceptance/rejection decision.

Why do journals ask authors to recommend reviewers?

Journals want to ensure that a qualified expert with thorough and in-depth understanding of the subject area reviews every manuscript they receive. Authors are most likely to know qualified experts in their field and hence are asked to provide the names of potential reviewers. Many journals also allow authors to exclude reviewers based on conflicts of interests; for example, an author can choose to exclude a competing researcher who he/she thinks will not provide a fair evaluation.

Who should I recommend as a reviewer for my manuscript?

A potential reviewer should be a qualified expert with thorough and in-depth understanding of the subject area of your manuscript. You can recommend researchers from other universities who are from the same field as you, fellow experts you meet at conferences and other academic forums, and authors you have cited in your manuscript as potential reviewers.

However, you should not recommend colleagues who work in the same department, employees who work under your supervision, your own supervisors, or co-authors, as this would involve a conflict of interest. (Note: Editage does not recommend reviewers for your manuscript.)

Who is the corresponding author?

During the journal submission process, one author must take overall responsibility for the manuscript and correspond with the journal right through the journal’s publication process. This author is called the corresponding author.

All correspondence pertaining to the manuscript is addressed and sent to the corresponding author and he/she is responsible for communicating with the journal, revising the paper, and submitting revisions. The corresponding author is also responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the paper.

What fees do I have to pay the journal and are these included in your Journal Submission service?

Different journals have different policies and operate on different revenue models. Hence, they have different fee structures as well. For example, most subscription-based journals charge authors for printing color figures/artwork. However, they do not charge any fees for publishing a manuscript. On the other hand, many open access journals charge authors a fee for publishing their articles and they use these fees to maintain the journal.

As these fees differ from journal to journal and, more importantly, need to be paid by the authors themselves, they are not included in our Journal Submission fee.

How will you check my document for Plagiarism?

What are the best practices for journals to be considered for review?

A journal should demonstrate the quality of editorial work, including features that contribute to the objectivity, credibility, and quality of its content. These features mainly include:

  • Information about the methods of selecting articles
  • Statements indicating adherence to ethical guidelines
  • Evidence that authors have disclosed financial conflicts of interest

How is the selection process carried out?

Generally the selection process for admission of new journals in the collection divided into three stages:

  • pre-assessment of format and indicators
  • evaluation of scientific contents by experts
  • final review by the Advisory Committee

What is rapid technical review?

What are the criteria for publication in Scientific Reports? Scientific Reports publishes original articles on the basis that they are technically sound and scientifically valid, and papers are peer reviewed on these criteria. The importance of an article is determined by its readership after publication.   What is the scope of Scientific Reports? The scope reflects Research’s core strengths in the natural and clinical sciences. Papers from all disciplines within these core fields will be considered for publication. What is the editorial structure? Scientific Reports has both an Editorial Advisory Panel, and an Editorial Board. The Editorial Advisory Panel provides advice to the journal as and when needed and will help in the recruitment of the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board — composed of practicing scientists in all relevant fields — manages the peer review process, and will take final decisions on whether papers should be accepted. An internal publishing team ensures that papers are assigned to an appropriate Editorial Board Member, who manages the review process.   What is the time to publication? Publication online is rapid and continuous, so papers will be published as soon as they are ready.     How will readers know articles are available free? All articles are open access so users will be able to access the full text instantly. Articles will be marked with an icon bearing 'Open' on the full-text and PDF formats of the published work, and information on the type of Creative Commons licence will be available on all article formats and listed in the article metadata. Will there be additional charges, especially if an article contains colour images? At Scientific Reports there are no additional publication charges unless authors wish to order reprints, for which charges apply. When do authors pay the article processing charge (APC)? Authors must complete a payment form on acceptance, a link to which is provided in the acceptance letter, as well as a relevant Creative Commons licence form. Authors must return both forms before their manuscript can be processed for publication. The APC payment process is administered by the publisher, Springer Nature, and payment can be made straightaway by credit card or, following receipt of an invoice, by credit card, cheque or BACS transfer. It is mandatory for the payment form to be completed, along with the Creative Commons licence form. Failure to complete the payment form will result in a publication delay. What if I want my institution to pay on my behalf? As indicated on the payment form, authors can request that an invoice be sent to their institution. What time period do I have within which to make the payment? Credit card payments are processed immediately, but Springer Nature recognizes that often authors do not pay themselves and if an author's institution is to pay the APC, it may take some time for an invoice to be paid. Invoices will be chased periodically, but if after 90 days no payment is received, the author will be contacted directly by the publisher.     What version of the Creative Commons license does the journal use? Articles are published under a CC BY license (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License). No – Scientific Reports is completely open access. How will people find my work if this journal is online only? The journal is highlighted through other Research titles both in print and online. The website is designed to facilitate article discovery with enhanced browse and search facilities. Does the journal offer advertising opportunities? Authors choose open access (OA) publication for a number of reasons:
  • It means anyone anywhere in the world can read, use and cite your research, which leads to greater visibility and impact, and may encourage collaborations and faster developments in that field
  • Authors often retain more control over and rights to distribute and re-use of their intellectual property
  • Funders may require outputs for their funded research to made open access
  • In many countries, much of the research is paid for by the taxpayer, therefore, OA allows the general public to access the research they have contributed towards
Does my librarian need a subscription? OA articles are free to anyone (individuals, libraries and institutions) with internet access. Therefore, a subscription is unnecessary to access and re-use articles. Individuals can register to receive email alerts for all OA journals.
Who retains copyright? Authors retain copyright under the terms outlined by the Creative Commons licences while allowing others to copy, distribute, and make some uses of their work – at least non-commercially. Every Creative Commons licence also ensures authors get the credit for their work. The licences work around the world and lasts as long as applicable copyright lasts. Why is there an Article Processing Charge (APC)? Although the publication is OA, there are costs at every stage of the publication process, including but not limited to running peer-review systems, copyediting and typesetting, hosting the article in perpetuity on dedicated servers and marketing. APCs vary from journal to journal, and discounts may be available.

◦ Is it possible to submit the same article to IJR and another Journal simultaneously?

No. You have to give an undertaking that the article submitted by you is not published or submitted for publication in any other journal. The article not accepted by IJR can be published in any other journal. The intimation for non-acceptance of article will reach you within 12-15 days of the submission of article to IJR.  

◦ How does the review process work?

The review of articles is done through a blind peer review. All the articles received by IJSER are send to Review Committee after deleting the name of the author to have an unbiased opinion about the research.

◦ How do you choose the reviewers?

◦ How long do reviews usually take?

Minimum time for review of any article is 3-12 days.  

◦ How long does it take for an accepted paper to be actually published?

The theme for every month is displayed two months prior to the publishing of the issue. It takes minimum one month for an accepted article to be published. If the accepted article does not come under the theme of that quarter, the time taken to publish the article would be longer.
